What do couples need to do after they get engaged?

 

First and foremost congratulations!! It’s official you’re getting married! And now you’re starting to feel overwhelmed with planning the perfect wedding, but don’t worry! At Vowla our goal is to make wedding planning accessible and easy for everyone so here are our five tips for what to do after you get engaged…

1. Take some time to relax!

You’re starting one of the most exciting journeys of your life! You’re so excited to tell all your loved ones the big news but before that take some time away for you and your partner! Plan a little get away with your partner to really relax and enjoy yourselves before you start the real planning process. Planning your wedding is going to start taking up a lot of your time so take that one last trip before it’s time to really start the process. Maybe even go off the grid and then when your return, post that engagement pic you’ve been waiting to share!

2. Tell your family and friends

First things first tell your family the big news! After that, be sure to tell your friends who are like family. These are going to be the people you will choose for your bridal party! Make sure to keep this in mind as you tell people so you can get an idea of the size of your bridal party. Once that’s done it's time to tell everyone else. Getting engaged is a major milestone and you’re loved ones will want to celebrate!

3. Draft your guest list!

Now that you’ve told everyone the news you need to figure out who you are going to invite! You and your partner should decide how many initiations each person needs. First start with your family members; are you inviting immediate family or extended family? After that, make a rough list of how many friends each of you wants to invite. Check with your family and your fiancés family to see if they have any friends that they want to join in the celebration. Once you have a rough list narrow it down to a range so you have a better idea of what kind of venue you should be looking for.

4. Start researching venues!

Once you know the size of your wedding you can start looking for venues! You need to pick a venue first because they can book up fast whereas your other vendors will work around the date! First you have to decide where you want to have your wedding; in your hometown, current city, fiancés hometown? After narrowing that down you can start looking for specific places. There are so many options to choose from so make sure to check with your fiancé about what kind of wedding they want to have! Both of you make a list of your top 5 and narrow it down from there.

5. Pick the Date!

You have your guest list and your venue so now it's time to pick a date and get those save the date cards out asap! Picking the date after your venue ensures that you can be flexible with where you want to get married. Some venues book out over a year in advance so with a flexible date you can still choose the venue of your dreams! After picking the venue you’ll have a better idea of what season you want your wedding in. Do you want an autumn wedding at a winery or a summer wedding on the beach? Keep in mind to choose a date that easiest for people to attend.
